Zelenskyy Urges Lasting, Fair Peace in Ukraine Amid Diplomatic Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have expressed readiness to coordinate efforts for a fair and lasting peace that guarantees security, emphasizing the importance of including Ukraine and Europe in any decisions. Zelenskyy has reiterated that peace talks must involve Ukraine directly and warned against any agreements that could lead to territorial concessions, which he and European allies believe would encourage further Russian aggression. Ahead of the August 15 meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where a possible war-freezing agreement is being prepared, Kyiv has underscored the need for an immediate and durable peace rather than a temporary ceasefire. Ukrainian and European security officials recently met with US Vice-President JD Vance, affirming Ukraine’s position against ceding land to Russia and highlighting the necessity of reciprocal and negotiated terms. European leaders have supported Trump's peace efforts but insist on maintaining pressure on Russia and securing guarantees for Ukraine, reflecting a cautious stance toward any territorial swaps. Overall, Zelenskyy supports a collective European initiative that prioritizes Ukraine’s sovereignty and a peace process determined collaboratively with Western allies.
