Maryland Man Charged in Fatal Middletown Delaware Hit-and-Run

A 62-year-old Middletown man died after being struck by a Chevrolet Equinox while riding an electric bike northbound on Middletown Warwick Road. The crash occurred near Strawberry Lane around 7:50 p.m. on October 30, 2025, with the vehicle ejecting the bicyclist and then fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage helped police identify the Chevrolet, which was found in a public alleyway in Chestertown, Maryland, with the assistance of Maryland State Police. The driver, 38-year-old Francisco Mendez-Peralta of Chestertown, was taken into custody and faces multiple felony charges including leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death, failure to report a collision resulting in death, and cars involved in death remaining at the scene for police arrival. The Delaware State Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information or video footage to contact authorities. The victim's name has been withheld pending family notification.
