EPA Extends Deadlines, Revises PFAS Regulations Amid Reporting Delays
In 2025, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) extended multiple reporting deadlines related to chemical safety and PFAS regulations to provide additional time for compliance and guidance development. Specifically, the reporting deadline for manufacturers and importers of 16 chemicals under TSCA Section 8(d) was moved to May 22, 2026, while PFAS reporting requirements under TSCA Section 8(a)(7) were delayed to April 13, 2026, with submissions ending in October 2026. The EPA maintained strict maximum contaminant levels for PFOA and PFOS in drinking water but announced plans to rescind and reevaluate regulations for four other PFAS chemicals, also proposing to extend the compliance deadline from 2029 to 2031 to ease implementation challenges. These regulatory shifts come amid ongoing industry and state-level PFAS reporting requirements, including Minnesota's stringent rules, urging manufacturers and importers to prepare for compliance. Meanwhile, Perma-Fix reported a modest revenue increase in early 2025 but faced revenue headwinds linked to federal procurement delays attributed to the U.S. administration transition, while highlighting growth prospects tied to PFAS treatment technology and federal contracts. Overall, EPA's adjustments reflect a cautious approach balancing enforceable safety standards with practical timelines for industry compliance and evolving PFAS regulatory frameworks.
