Federal Agents Clash With Protesters During Oxnard Immigration Raid
Federal agents from Homeland Security/ICE and related federal units carried out an early-morning operation in the 400 block of A Street in Oxnard after notifying the Oxnard Police Department just before 6 a.m., with the action focused on an apartment building and cordoned by crime-scene tape. Several dozen protesters gathered and clashed with the agents as they left, with aerial and chopper footage showing people yelling at vehicles, objects thrown, at least one arrest as agents departed, a shattered rear window on an SUV, and what appeared to be a smoke/chemical agent deployed. The U.S. Department of Justice tied the raid to its pursuit of two Oxnard residents accused of interfering with July raids on Glass House farms in Camarillo and Carpinteria — Isai Carrillo was arrested and faces a conspiracy charge and up to five years in prison, while Virginia Reyes remains at large. Prosecutors allege Carrillo and others damaged government vehicles and injured a federal contract employee; Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said there is “zero tolerance for violence against law enforcement officers.” The operation comes amid months of local protests over immigration enforcement tied to the Trump administration’s deportation efforts, and separately a 9th U.S. Circuit Court panel agreed to reconsider a ruling that would allow deployment of National Guard troops to Portland, temporarily stalling that deployment.
