Predator: Badlands Rated PG-13, Centers on Predator
After revitalizing the franchise with Prey (and the animated Killer of Killers), Dan Trachtenberg returns with Predator: Badlands, a far-future, alien-planet tale that centers on a young Yautja named Dek rather than a human lead. The film is a franchise first for its lower U.S. PG-13 and U.K. 12A ratings — a decision the BBFC attributed to the absence of human characters and the depiction of fantastical, non-human violence. Elle Fanning appears in a dual role (including the character Thia) opposite Dek. Early reviews released after the embargo have been broadly positive, praising Trachtenberg’s visuals, creature design, emotional storytelling and inventive subversion of series tropes. Premiere and festival responses suggest the film successfully revitalizes the series while adopting a lighter, more family-friendly tone despite retaining moments of gore.
