Cambridge South Station Expected to Open 2026 with Full Train Service, 1.8 Million Annual Passengers

Cambridge South railway station is set to open in early 2026, providing a comprehensive train service from day one that includes all passing services by Greater Anglia, Great Northern, Thameslink, and CrossCountry. The station, located adjacent to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, is expected to serve approximately 1.8 million passengers annually and will significantly enhance connectivity across the East of England. Up to nine trains per hour will link Cambridge South with Cambridge, with fast and frequent services to London King’s Cross, Stansted Airport, Birmingham, Ely, and other key destinations, including half-hourly Thameslink trains to Brighton and connections to Gatwick and international services via St Pancras. The new station aims to support the region's economic growth by improving access to the biomedical campus and wider job and travel opportunities. Officials highlight the station as a crucial infrastructure investment facilitating growth in medical research, healthcare, and tourism. Service levels are expected to mirror those at the existing Cambridge station, ensuring seamless and efficient regional and national travel.
