Trump to Attend ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur

Anwar stated that the US tariff rate on Malaysian goods, which could be set at 25%, will be announced on August 1, with hopes for a negotiated reduction as talks continue. Malaysia, currently ASEAN chair, is balancing closer US economic ties with domestic political voices like Amanah urging a non-aligned stance and stronger BRICS relations. The 13th Malaysia Plan has been unveiled, aiming to boost incomes and address inequalities over the next five years. Trump has reportedly praised Malaysia's role in negotiating a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. The summit marks the first US presidential attendance in Kuala Lumpur since 2015.
