Japanese Breakfast Releases New Song for Materialists Soundtrack

Japanese Breakfast, led by Michelle Zauner, has released the song 'My Baby (Got Nothing At All)' as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming A24 romantic comedy film Materialists, directed by Celine Song and starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans. The song, which blends Japanese Breakfast’s signature alternative style with a gentle country lilt, reflects the movie's themes of romantic tension and the choice between a perfect lover and a complicated ex. The soundtrack, produced by A24 Music, includes 16 tracks featuring Daniel Pemberton's original score and neo-soul singer Baby Rose’s covers of classics by The Velvet Underground and Nat King Cole. Zauner expressed enthusiasm for contributing to the project, inspired by Song's previous work and given creative freedom in crafting a song that fits the film's tone. Materialists and its full soundtrack will both be released on June 13, coinciding with the movie’s theatrical debut. This collaboration marks a continued relationship between Song and A24, following her acclaimed film Past Lives in 2023.
