Obama's Former Martha's Vineyard Retreat Lists for $39 Million
Blue Heron Farm, the former Martha’s Vineyard summer retreat rented by President Barack Obama and his family for several years, has been listed for sale at $39 million. The 30-acre estate in Chilmark, Massachusetts, includes a 7,000-square-foot main house, a guesthouse, a historic 150-year-old barn, equestrian facilities, tennis and basketball courts, a boathouse, a pool house, and private waterfront access. Originally developed by philanthropist M. Anthony Fisher in the early 1990s, the property was later owned by Mollie and William Van Devender, who rented it to the Obamas for $50,000 a week from 2009 to 2011. Acclaimed British architect Norman Foster, who purchased the property in 2011 for $22.4 million, has since made significant modern updates while preserving its classic New England character. The estate has also hosted other notable guests, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, and any sale will benefit local conservation efforts through a Land Bank fee. The listing highlights the estate's blend of historic charm, luxury amenities, and its prominent place in recent presidential history.
