British man, 27, dies in avalanche at Val Thorens resort after major snowstorm
A 27-year-old British man died after being swept 50 feet by an avalanche at the Val Thorens ski resort in the French Alps, following a massive snowstorm that triggered multiple landslides in the region. The man, who had been staying with friends at the resort, was found buried under the snow at the entrance to Val Thorens and was rushed to Grenoble Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Local authorities reported that four landslides were recorded in nearby areas, with two reaching the town center, and urged heightened vigilance due to ongoing hazardous conditions. Emergency responders were alerted by witnesses and provided first aid, but the victim later succumbed to his injuries. The incident is under investigation by regional prosecutors, and the victim's family is receiving support from local services. The avalanche was part of a broader weather event affecting the Alps, causing fatalities and disruptions across France, Italy, and Switzerland.
