Meta Cuts 600 Superintelligence Labs Jobs

Meta is cutting roughly 600 roles from its Superintelligence Labs AI division, with layoffs hitting FAIR, product-related AI and AI infrastructure teams while the new TBD Lab is reportedly spared. Employees were alerted Oct. 22 and some were placed on a non-working notice period through Nov. 21; Meta is encouraging affected staff to apply for other internal roles. Meta is offering severance reported as at least 16 weeks plus additional pay per year of service to departing employees. Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang said the reorganization aims to reduce “organizational bloat,” speed decision-making and make individual contributors more “load-bearing,” and company spokespeople described the move as consolidating AI efforts under a product-focused vision led by Wang and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The cuts follow a year of aggressive AI hiring and compensation to poach top talent, come amid rising AI infrastructure spending and a forecast of $114–$118 billion in full-year expenses for 2025, and Meta says it will continue hiring for priority AI teams.
