Russian Forces Shift to Mass Assault Tactics in Ukraine
Russian forces have shifted tactics in Ukraine, moving from small, lightly armed assault groups to larger, more organized attacks involving several hundred troops and increased use of motorcycles and armored vehicles. Recent assaults in regions like Zaporizhzhia and Pokrovsk have seen up to 320–400 Russian personnel, with notable use of motorcycles—sometimes up to a hundred in a single attack—allowing rapid movement but resulting in heavy losses. Ukrainian forces, supported by technological advancements such as drones, have managed to repel these large-scale assaults, inflicting significant casualties and destroying substantial Russian equipment. This change marks a departure from Russia's earlier reliance on small-scale infiltration, adapting in response to the challenges posed by widespread drone warfare and fortified Ukrainian defenses. Despite the intensity and scale of these new tactics, Ukrainian brigades have successfully held their positions and prevented Russian territorial gains. Military experts warn that if Russian forces continue to escalate these mass assaults, further defensive measures, like expanded minefields and obstacles, may be essential to counter them.
