Oscar Piastri Secures Pole as McLaren Sweeps Front Row in Spanish GP
Oscar Piastri secured pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, leading a McLaren front-row lockout with teammate Lando Norris in second, continuing their dominant season. Piastri's final lap of 1:11.546 was the biggest pole margin of the year, beating Norris by 0.209 seconds, despite Norris briefly taking pole during the session aided by a slipstream. Max Verstappen qualified third for Red Bull, just ahead of Mercedes' George Russell, who had an identical time but started fourth due to setting his lap later. Lewis Hamilton qualified fifth for Ferrari, outperforming teammate Charles Leclerc who started seventh, while Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar also impressed with top ten qualifications. McLaren's pace remained strong despite recent stricter front wing flex regulations, and their drivers continue to lead the tight championship battle. The Spanish Grand Prix promises an exciting race with McLaren in a prime position to extend their success.
