Sam Pinkleton Wins Tony for Best Direction of Play Oh, Mary!

Sam Pinkleton won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play for the dark comedy "Oh, Mary!", which reimagines Mary Todd Lincoln as an alcoholic aspiring cabaret singer. This marks Pinkleton's first Tony win after a previous choreography nomination for "Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812." Co-written by and starring nonbinary comedian Cole Escola, who also won Best Actor, the play has enjoyed critical and commercial success, breaking box-office records with over $1 million weekly in ticket sales. Pinkleton praised Escola for inspiring him to create authentic work and thanked audiences for embracing the show’s joy. "Oh, Mary!" began off-Broadway before transferring to the Lyceum Theatre and has extended its Broadway run through September.
