Minute's Silence for Diogo Jota Disrupted at Wembley
A minute's silence for Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who died in a car accident in July, was disrupted by chanting from a small number of Crystal Palace fans before the Community Shield match at Wembley. The interruption prompted boos from Liverpool supporters and led the referee to end the tribute early. Liverpool legend Ian Rush and Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish led floral tributes, while banners honoring Jota were displayed in the stands. Liverpool supporters also booed the national anthem, continuing a protest tradition. Liverpool has retired Jota's number 20 jersey in his honor as the club and fans continue to mourn his loss. The disruption drew widespread condemnation and underscored the emotional atmosphere around Liverpool's first major game since Jota's passing.
