Masai Russell Sets American 100m Hurdles Record in Miami
Olympic gold medalist Masai Russell set a new American record and the second-fastest time in world history in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Grand Slam Track meet in Miami, clocking 12.17 seconds. Her performance edged out fellow American Tia Jones, who finished in 12.19 seconds, marking the third-fastest time ever and pushing both past former record-holder Keni Harrison. The race, held under wind-legal conditions, was the highlight of the Grand Slam Track league's Miami event and underscored Russell’s dominance following her Olympic gold in Paris. The Grand Slam Track league, founded by Michael Johnson, aims to keep the sport in the spotlight between Olympic cycles and features multiple high-caliber events for elite athletes. Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan still holds the world record of 12.12 seconds. Russell expressed surprise at her achievement, crediting the competitive field for pushing her to excel.
