In the lead-up to Bonfire Night, police and fire services across the UK have intensified operations to seize illegal fireworks and prevent related disorder. In Edinburgh, authorities confiscated over a tonne of fireworks worth approximately £42,000, linking the seizure to anticipated public disorder and implementing control zones to restrict firework use. Similarly, in Newcastle, around 20kg of unlicensed fireworks were seized from a residence, with officials emphasizing the dangers of unlicensed sales and urging public responsibility. West Yorkshire saw coordinated raids resulting in the confiscation of £10,000 worth of illegal fireworks, along with large quantities of illicit cigarettes, vapes, and other unsafe products, highlighting the risks posed by illegal fireworks storage and sales. Officials from police, fire services, and trading standards stressed the importance of purchasing fireworks from licensed retailers and attending organized events to ensure public safety.
