US, 14 Allies Accuse Iran of Western Assassination, Kidnap Plots
The United States, the United Kingdom, and 12 other Western allies issued a joint statement condemning Iran's intelligence services for a surge in assassination, kidnapping, and harassment plots targeting dissidents, journalists, officials, and Jewish citizens in Europe and North America. These nations accused Tehran of collaborating with international criminal organizations to carry out these illegal activities, which they described as clear violations of their sovereignty and acts of state-sponsored terror. The coalition called on Iran to immediately cease such operations, highlighting disruptions of more than 20 Iran-linked plots in the UK and thwarted assassination attempts in the Netherlands and Spain. Among notable incidents, the US Justice Department indicted members of a European criminal gang involved in a Tehran-backed assassination plot against an Iranian-American journalist, and US authorities charged a man over an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. This unified condemnation coincides with heightened diplomatic tensions over Iran's nuclear program, regional proxies, and cyber operations. Meanwhile, Iran accused the US and Israel of plotting to install a puppet government led by the exiled son of the last Shah, framing it as part of a multifaceted war against the regime.
