Over 30 Arrested in Clashes at Seattle Religious Protests

Seattle has experienced significant unrest following conservative Christian rallies organized by the group MAYDAY USA, which opposes abortion and LGBTQ rights. During a rally at Cal Anderson Park in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, a historically LGBTQ area, 23 people were arrested amid clashes between rally attendees and counterprotesters, with police reporting assaults on officers. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell condemned the conservative group and expressed support for counterprotesters, leading to further tensions and a subsequent rally at City Hall demanding his apology or resignation. At the City Hall event, eight more people were arrested for assault during confrontations between opposing groups, though no injuries were reported. The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has so far filed only one misdemeanor assault charge and is still reviewing other cases. Police continue to investigate the events, and city officials have yet to make definitive decisions on prosecuting those arrested.
