Reddit CEO Says AI Chatbots Not Driving Significant Traffic Growth
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stated during the company's Q3 2025 earnings call that AI chatbots, despite their growing presence in search technologies by companies like OpenAI and Google, are not currently driving significant traffic to Reddit. Instead, the platform's visits primarily come from two stable sources: Google search and direct user access, each accounting for roughly half of the traffic. Reddit has developed partnerships with AI firms, licensing its data for model training while restricting commercial access and pursuing legal action against some companies for misuse. The company reported strong growth with $585 million in revenue, a 68% increase year-over-year, and a user base of 116 million daily active unique users. Reddit is integrating AI-powered tools into its search experience, which already account for about 20% of search volumes, and plans to unify AI and traditional search features soon. Additionally, Reddit is piloting a simplified onboarding process to enhance new user engagement and demonstrate the platform's value quickly.
