Melbourne Academic Charged After Alleged Child Abuse Images During Lecture, Sydney Devices Seized

A 70-year-old academic in Melbourne has been charged with possessing child abuse material after allegedly inadvertently displaying inappropriate images during a university lecture in the city's CBD on February 5. Following a police investigation, officers executed search warrants at the man's home in Middle Park and a second property in Sydney, seizing multiple electronic devices. The man faces one Commonwealth charge and two Victorian charges related to possessing child abuse material. Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing regarding the seized devices, but they are not seeking any other suspects. The accused is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court in early August. Police have not disclosed the university involved and have confirmed no further searches for other individuals are underway.
