Four Charged After Racially Motivated Assault On Tourists Belfast City Centre
Two tourists walking in Belfast's Royal Avenue were attacked and racially abused by a group of four individuals, including two men aged 28 and 34 and two women aged 22 and 38, in an incident treated as a racially motivated hate crime. The assault, which involved the tourists being punched and kicked repeatedly, was captured by police CCTV, allowing officers on enhanced city patrols to respond swiftly and arrest the suspects. The victims did not sustain serious injuries according to police. Chief Superintendent Jeremy Lindsay condemned the attack as shameful and emphasized ongoing efforts to maintain safety in Belfast city centre through increased patrols and community engagement. The four suspects face charges related to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and attempted grievous bodily harm and are due to appear in court. Authorities continue to encourage the public to report criminal activity to support community safety.
