Dachshund Rescued After 529 Days Lost on Kangaroo Island

Valerie, a miniature dachshund, was rescued in good health after surviving 529 days alone in the wilds of Kangaroo Island, Australia, following her disappearance during a camping trip in November 2023. Her owners, Georgia Gardner and Josh Fishlock, launched an extensive search with Kangala Wildlife Rescue, whose volunteers dedicated over 1,000 hours and traveled more than 5,000 kilometers in their efforts. The rescue operation utilized surveillance cameras, remote-controlled trap cages, and a scent trail created from Gardner’s worn clothing to lure Valerie to safety.
