Fisher sets new 5,000m indoor world record, follows 3,000m record
American athlete Grant Fisher achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the world indoor 5,000-meter record with a time of 12:44.09 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, besting Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele's previous record of 12:49.60 set in 2004. This performance came just six days after Fisher set the indoor 3,000-meter record at the Millrose Games, where he clocked in at 7:22.91. Fisher's performance was characterized by a strong finish, featuring a final 400 meters completed in 59.36 seconds, allowing him to lap several competitors before crossing the finish line. French runner Jimmy Gressier finished second, setting a new European indoor record of 12:54.92. Fisher, who won two bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has displayed extraordinary form, now holding multiple world indoor records within a week. His latest accomplishment continues a trend of record-breaking performances in athletics as the indoor season progresses.
