Sha'Carri Richardson Misses 200m Final, Ends US Championships Run

Sha'Carri Richardson narrowly missed qualifying for the 200-meter final at the 2025 U.S. Track and Field Championships, finishing fourth in her heat with a time of 22.56 seconds, just .01 seconds behind Madison Whyte. This marked her first 200-meter race of the season, after a tumultuous week that included her arrest on a fourth-degree domestic violence charge related to an alleged assault on her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Following her arrest, Richardson ran the opening round of the 100 meters but withdrew from the event; however, she remains qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo as the reigning 100-meter world champion. Richardson decided to forgo the 100-meter semifinals at the national championships to focus on the 200-meter event and her preparation for the world championships. Despite the challenges, she holds an impressive record, including a bronze medal in the 200 meters at the 2023 World Championships and a silver medal in the 100 meters at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Her career also includes a missed opportunity at the Tokyo Games due to a positive marijuana test during the 2021 U.S. Olympic trials.
