Third Teen Arrested in Champaign July Shooting
A third teenager has been arrested in connection with the July 15 shooting in Champaign, Illinois, which left a 14-year-old boy with multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. The suspects approached the victim outdoors at an apartment complex, opened fire, and fled the scene. The victim received immediate medical aid and has since been released from the hospital and is recovering. Police arrested 15- and 16-year-old males on the night of the shooting, and a 17-year-old male was taken into custody on July 31; all suspects are from Champaign and their identities are withheld due to their ages. Two firearms have been recovered, and the investigation is ongoing with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Task Force. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact police or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
