Rugby Australia Launches Domestic Super Rugby AUS Competition

Rugby Australia is launching a new annual domestic competition, Super Rugby AUS, starting in September and running through early October, to provide more game time for senior players not involved with the Wallabies. This competition aims to bridge the gap between club rugby and professional Super Rugby, addressing concerns that non-Wallabies players currently have limited playing opportunities compared to international peers. Featuring the New South Wales Waratahs, ACT Brumbies, Western Force, and Queensland Reds, the format includes three rounds plus a final, with matches held at popular local venues. The competition also serves to showcase emerging players and coaching talent, linking with national and pathway programs to strengthen player development. Rugby Australia officials emphasize that this initiative is long overdue and will enhance the domestic rugby landscape, offering fans additional quality matches and supporting the growth of rugby in Australia. The competition will run alongside the existing Super Rugby Men's U19 and U16 competitions, creating a comprehensive domestic rugby calendar.
