Old English Village Demolished for Olympics Prep

Long Beach has begun demolishing the Old English Village, a themed tourist area built in the 1970s adjacent to the Queen Mary, to address safety concerns such as structural decay, vandalism, and vermin infestation. City officials, including Mayor Rex Richardson, state the $1.4 million project is part of a broader waterfront revitalization and supports preparations for the 2028 Olympic events. The cleared site will be repurposed for parking and festival space, helping the Queen Mary District accommodate increased tourism and activity. The initiative is expected to drive economic growth, bring new jobs, and attract further investment to Long Beach. Some memorabilia from the Old English Village are being preserved and moved onto the Queen Mary. Demolition is scheduled for completion by next month.
