ESPN to Acquire NFL Network and NFL Fantasy
ESPN, owned by Disney, has reached an agreement to acquire NFL Network, NFL RedZone, NFL Fantasy, and other NFL media assets in exchange for the NFL receiving a 10% equity stake in ESPN. The deal, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close by the 2026 NFL season. ESPN plans to integrate these assets into its upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service and merge NFL Fantasy with ESPN Fantasy Football. The NFL’s equity stake in ESPN is estimated to be worth between $2.2 and $2.5 billion, though exact financial terms were not disclosed. Industry leaders describe the agreement as a major step in sports media, reflecting closer business ties between leagues and media companies. Both Disney and NFL executives say the partnership will expand consumer choice and enhance the quality and convenience for fans.
