Three Killed, Several Hurt in Utah Festival Shooting
A 16-year-old male opened fire during an altercation between two groups at WestFest, an annual festival in West Valley City, Utah, on Sunday night, killing three people: an 18-year-old man involved in the dispute, a 41-year-old woman bystander, and an 8-month-old infant bystander. Two teenagers, ages 17 and 15, suffered gunshot wounds to their arms, and a pregnant woman was injured while fleeing the scene. Police officers at the festival attempted to intervene in the verbal argument, and one officer fired at the suspect but missed. The suspect was apprehended at the scene, and his identity is being withheld due to his age. Authorities have not determined if the shooting was gang-related and continue to interview witnesses. City officials and community leaders expressed sorrow, calling for resilience and unity in response to the tragedy.
