Volkswagen Unveils ID.Cross Concept Previewing Affordable Electric SUV
Volkswagen is set to reveal the ID.Cross Concept at the 2025 IAA Mobility show in Munich, previewing an all-electric compact SUV positioned as the electric counterpart to the popular T-Cross. The ID.Cross, measuring about 4.16 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2.6 meters, offers more interior space due to the tightly packaged MEB+ front-wheel-drive platform, featuring up to 450 liters of boot space plus a 25-liter frunk, and targets a WLTP range of approximately 260 miles. Volkswagen is adopting a new naming strategy that revives established combustion-era model names for its EV lineup, with the ID.Cross paralleling the combustion T-Cross and the ID.Polo replacing the former ID.2all. The design language, called 'Pure Positive,' emphasizes stability and simplicity, with a clean exterior, a distinctive smiling front end, and a lounge-style interior with fabric-covered surfaces and fold-flat seats creating a relaxing atmosphere. Volkswagen aims for the ID.Cross to embody improved operability, quality, and technology, including a redesigned cockpit with digital displays and physical audio and climate controls, signaling a move toward a more conventional and customer-familiar EV design. Production is planned for 2026, with the ID.Cross expected to be priced around €25,000, joining Volkswagen Group’s new 'Electric Urban Car Family' alongside the ID.Polo, Skoda Epiq, and Cupra Raval.
