Two friends from Cwmbran, South Wales, Jemma Louise Gough and Jamie Lee Watkins, had their Airbnb booking in Manchester rejected solely because of their Welsh origin. They had planned to attend a concert by Australian music producer Sonny Fodera and mentioned traveling from Wales in their booking request. The host responded bluntly, stating the booking was declined "because you're from WALES," which the women described as blatant discrimination and xenophobia. Despite polite inquiries citing the Equality Act 2010, the host gave no further explanation or apology. The incident has sparked outrage, with the women highlighting the injustice of being discriminated against based on their nationality within the UK. The host, identified as Katie Jones, declined to comment on the matter.
