Pennsylvania Man Arrested After Rescuing Louisiana Girl Hidden in Basement Box

A 13-year-old girl from Louisiana was found alive in a box hidden in a Pittsburgh basement after a multi-state search initiated by authorities. The girl had met 26-year-old Ki-Shawn Crumity on Snapchat, who lured her by promising to help her get adopted by a trusted adult before sexually assaulting her repeatedly over a week. She was transported through several states by accomplices, including Ronald Smith, 62, who was arrested in Georgia on kidnapping charges. The FBI and Pittsburgh police executed a search warrant following a tip from the U.S. Marshals Service, rescuing the girl and recovering evidence of sexual assault. Crumity faces numerous charges including human trafficking, statutory sexual assault, and furnishing alcohol to a minor, and is held without bond. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill condemned the crime as a stark example of online grooming and human trafficking dangers, with further arrests anticipated.
