Sherri Papini Claims Torture in Documentary After Faked Kidnapping

Sherri Papini, the California mother who staged her own abduction in 2016, is breaking her silence in a new docuseries titled 'Sherri Papini: Caught in the Lie.' Despite pleading guilty to making false statements and mail fraud, for which she was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay over $300,000 in restitution, Papini now insists she was genuinely kidnapped, tortured, and branded during her 22-day disappearance. The docuseries features Papini recounting her version of events and participating in a polygraph test to support her claims, though investigators previously determined she had been staying with an ex-boyfriend and had inflicted injuries on herself. The case originally drew national attention after Papini reappeared with visible injuries and claimed she was abducted by two Hispanic women. Authorities later found evidence contradicting her story, including DNA linking her to her former boyfriend. Papini is also currently involved in a custody battle with her ex-husband over their two children.
