Stevenson Out; Henderson To Lead vs Falcons
The New England Patriots will be without starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons after he missed multiple practices with a toe injury, coach Mike Vrabel confirmed. Stevenson has 83 carries for 279 yards and three touchdowns this season, and his physical running and pass-protection will be missed. Rookie TreVeyon Henderson (228 yards on 53 carries, one TD) is expected to assume lead-back duties, offering breakaway speed and third-down utility. New England has added depth, signing veteran D'Ernest Johnson and staffing the practice squad after earlier losing Antonio Gibson to an ACL injury, and could elevate additional backs for the game. The matchup is a pivotal test for the 6-2 Patriots as they try to protect their AFC East lead while adjusting their game plan against a Falcons defense strong in pass coverage but vulnerable to the run.
