Gordon Ramsay Restaurants Cut Nearly 200 Jobs Amid £13.2m UK Losses
Gordon Ramsay's restaurant group has cut nearly 200 jobs, reducing staff by about 10% amid losses that reached £13.2 million in 2024, reflecting the toughest period for the UK hospitality sector since the pandemic. Despite revenues increasing from £95.6 million to £133.9 million, the group faced rising costs from higher energy bills, wage inflation, and government tax policies introduced in the recent Budget, including increased National Insurance contributions and minimum wages. Ramsay noted changing customer habits, particularly among younger generations who prefer less interaction with front-of-house staff, leading to staff reductions primarily in casual dining venues. The wider hospitality industry lost 69,000 jobs between October 2024 and May 2025, with many businesses planning further cuts due to an estimated £3.4 billion in additional costs stemming from government policies. Ramsay's fine dining outlets have also raised prices substantially, with a Christmas meal at his Michelin-starred Petrus now costing £325 per person, while some venues like his Gordon Ramsay Burger chain are closing. Despite these challenges, Ramsay's group plans international expansion, including new openings in Spain, Saudi Arabia, and India.
