Social Security Payments Sent to Millions September 10
Millions of Americans, including retirees, people with disabilities, and survivors, will receive Social Security benefit payments this week, with the first distribution scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, 2025, targeting those born between the 1st and 10th of any month. The Social Security Administration (SSA) staggers monthly payments across three Wednesdays based on recipients' birthdates to manage the volume, with subsequent payments for birthdays between the 11th and 20th on September 17, and between the 21st and 31st on September 24. Beneficiaries who were previously overpaid may see 50% of their monthly checks withheld to repay these amounts, a policy enacted starting in July 2025. Typical monthly Social Security retirement benefits average around $2,006.69 in 2025, with maximum benefits reaching $4,018 at full retirement age and up to $5,108 if delayed until age 70, depending on lifetime earnings and contributions. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments follow a different schedule, with September's SSI benefits issued early on August 29 due to the Labor Day holiday. Looking ahead, the SSA projects a 2.7% cost-of-living adjustment for next year to help maintain purchasing power for beneficiaries.
