New Jersey Man Arrested in Fatal Fitchburg Shooting

A fatal shooting occurred early Sunday morning on Mechanic Street in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, resulting in the death of a 63-year-old local man who was found suffering from a gunshot wound outside a vehicle. Jonathan Reyes-Contreras, a 42-year-old man from New Jersey, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Authorities indicated that the victim and suspect were known to each other and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Reyes-Contreras is expected to be arraigned in Fitchburg District Court.
