White House Calls Israeli Hamas Strike in Qatar Unfortunate, Trump Expresses Regret
President Donald Trump expressed regret over Israel's strike targeting Hamas officials in Doha, Qatar, emphasizing that while eliminating Hamas is a worthy goal, unilaterally bombing a sovereign U.S. ally does not advance peace efforts. The White House stated that Trump was informed of the attack by the U.S. military and promptly directed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to notify Qatari officials about the impending strike. Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who reaffirmed his desire to make peace quickly, and also communicated with Qatari leaders to assure them such an incident would not recur. The strike killed several Hamas members, including relatives of senior leaders, and was condemned by Qatar and other regional and Western powers for escalating tensions and violating international norms. The White House views Qatar as a strong ally working closely with the U.S. on peace initiatives, and Trump called for the release of all hostages and remains from Gaza, expressing hope that the incident might open an opportunity for peace. The administration continues to emphasize the importance of ending the conflict and maintaining regional stability.
