Akon's Wife Files Divorce Before 29th Anniversary, Seeks Custody

Singer Akon's wife, Tomeka Thiam, has filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences just days before their 29th wedding anniversary. The couple shares one child, a 17-year-old daughter named Journey, for whom Tomeka is seeking joint legal custody and physical custody while requesting spousal support and asking the court to deny Akon any spousal support. Akon, 52, who made his Bollywood debut with "Chammak Challo," has publicly acknowledged practicing polygamy and has nine children with multiple wives, including musician Amirror, who has claimed to be one of his four wives. Akon stated in a 2022 interview that polygamy is part of his African culture and that he aims to provide for and protect all his children and their mothers. Despite the complexities of his family life, Akon emphasizes his responsibility to care for his family and participate in their lives through communication and support. As of now, Akon has not publicly responded to the divorce filing.
