1-Year-Old Fatally Struck by Mother's Car in Long Beach

A 1-year-old child died after being accidentally struck by their mother’s vehicle in the carport of a Long Beach apartment complex on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. in the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue, when the child walked in front of the moving car without the mother's knowledge. Emergency responders performed lifesaving measures and transported the child to a local hospital, but the child was pronounced dead. Authorities stated that neither impaired nor distracted driving appear to be factors in the collision. Police are continuing to investigate and are urging witnesses to come forward or submit anonymous tips. The identity of the child is being withheld due to their age.
