Billy Porter to Lead All-Black La Cage Aux Folles at New York City Center
New York City Center announced its 2025–2026 musical theater season, highlighting an all-Black production of the Tony Award-winning musical La Cage Aux Folles starring Billy Porter as Albin. Directed by Robert O’Hara, this revival will run from June 17 to 28, 2026, marking the first time Black performers will feature prominently in the show, which tells the story of a gay couple running a drag club on the French Riviera. The season also includes three other productions: High Spirits, directed by Jessica Stone; The Wild Party, directed by Lili-Anne Brown; and the gala presentation Bat Boy: The Musical, directed by Alex Timbers. Jenny Gersten, the newly appointed Vice President & Artistic Director of Musical Theatre, emphasized the season's diverse styles and narratives about acceptance and understanding. Tickets for these productions will include affordable options to encourage accessibility. The season aims to offer a mix of fun and meaningful stories, reflecting the current cultural moment.
