Marlins Claim Tyler Zuber, Designate Nick Nastrini

The Miami Marlins claimed right-handed reliever Tyler Zuber off waivers from the New York Mets and immediately optioned him to their Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville. Zuber, 30, has struggled with command issues both in the majors and minors, posting a 5.27 ERA across parts of four big league seasons and a 6.11 ERA in Triple-A this year. Despite limited major league success, he offers swing-and-miss potential thanks to his mid-90s fastball and an evolving pitch repertoire that now includes a changeup. To make room on the 40-man roster for Zuber, the Marlins designated right-hander Nick Nastrini for assignment; Nastrini, 25, has also faced challenges with control and has recorded a 7.07 ERA in his brief major league career.
