Kevin Walters Named Kangaroos Coach for Ashes Tour

Kevin Walters has been officially appointed head coach of the Australian Kangaroos for the upcoming Ashes rugby league series in England, succeeding Mal Meninga, who left to coach the new Perth Bears franchise. Walters, a former premiership-winning player and coach, brings extensive experience from both club and state levels, including 11 Tests for Australia. The Ashes series is Australia's first against England since 2017 and the first Ashes tour in 22 years, with matches set for Wembley, Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, and Headingley. Walters expressed excitement and honor at leading the team. Brad Fittler withdrew his candidacy due to media commitments, while Cameron Smith was not selected due to lack of head coaching experience. Additionally, women's team coach Jess Skinner has had her contract extended through the 2026 World Cup.
