A16z Invests $70M in EigenCloud Launch

Eigen Labs has launched EigenCloud, a platform integrating tools like EigenDA, EigenCompute, and EigenVerify to deliver blockchain-grade verifiability for Web2 and Web3 applications. The launch is backed by a $70 million direct token investment from a16z crypto, following their earlier $100 million Series B round, demonstrating sustained venture support. EigenCloud leverages the EigenLayer restaking protocol, which secures over $12 billion in assets, to extend Ethereum trust guarantees to off-chain computation and services in sectors such as AI, healthcare, finance, and media. The platform introduces 'verifiability-as-a-service' and enables cryptographic proofs of off-chain activity for new crypto-native and Web2-integrated applications. Early real-world adoption is underway, with companies like Securitize planning to use EigenCloud for asset pricing data verification. The alpha release includes performance upgrades, new dispute tooling, and a roadmap for phased developer access with future plans for fully verifiable general-purpose compute.
