Hugging Face Launches Open-Source Humanoid Robots HopeJR, Reachy Mini
Hugging Face has unveiled two new open-source humanoid robots, HopeJR and Reachy Mini, aimed at democratizing access to robotics technology. HopeJR is a full-sized humanoid robot with 66 actuated degrees of freedom, enabling walking and arm manipulation, priced around $3,000. Reachy Mini is a smaller desktop robot designed for head movement, speech, and listening, intended as a testing platform for AI applications, costing between $250 and $300 depending on tariffs. The company expects to begin shipping units by the end of the year and has opened a waitlist for interested buyers. This release follows Hugging Face's acquisition of humanoid robotics startup Pollen Robotics, which provided key capabilities for the development, and builds on their existing robotics initiatives such as the LeRobot platform and the updated SO-101 robotic arm. CEO Clem Delangue emphasized the importance of affordability and open-source design to prevent the domination of robotics by a few large companies with opaque technologies.
