Renewables Reach Record 76.4% Demand Australia’s Main Grid
Renewable energy generation is reaching new record highs globally in 2024 and 2025. In the U.S., power consumption is projected to hit record highs in 2025 and 2026, with renewables increasing their share of power generation from 23% in 2024 to 26% in 2026, amid rising demand from AI, cryptocurrency data centers, and electrification trends. The UK saw renewables account for more than half of its electricity generation for the first time in 2024, reaching 50.4%, driven mainly by wind power, while low-carbon sources including nuclear supplied nearly 65% of electricity. Australia’s National Electricity Market reached a new record renewable share of 76.4% of electricity demand in September 2025, surpassing the previous record from November 2024, with rooftop solar and wind as major contributors, though curtailment limited an even higher share. These trends highlight a continuing global shift toward renewables despite challenges like intermittency and grid management, supported by advances in storage and infrastructure. Overall, the data reflects significant progress in clean energy adoption while power demand continues to grow worldwide.
