Ex-SNP MP Mhairi Black Joins BBC Glasgow Drama 'Counsels' as Detective Inspector
Mhairi Black, who made history as the youngest MP elected to Westminster since 1832, has transitioned from politics to the entertainment industry after stepping down at the 2024 general election and quitting the SNP in 2025. She debuted a one-woman comedy show and is now taking on her first television acting role as Detective Inspector Bridges in the BBC legal drama "Counsels," set and filmed in Glasgow. The eight-part series, co-created by Bryan Elsley and Gillian McCormack, follows a group of young lawyers navigating their careers and personal lives, with Black appearing in half of the episodes. The cast includes both emerging talents and established actors such as Michelle Gomez and Daniela Nardini, promising a dynamic portrayal of legal and interpersonal drama. Black expressed enthusiasm for exploring new opportunities beyond politics, highlighting the unique chance to work on a Glasgow-based production. "Counsels" will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, backed by Screen Scotland and Balloon Entertainment.
