OpenAI CEO Altman Confirms $13B+ Revenue Amid $1T Compute Plans
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has stated that the company is generating well over $13 billion in annual revenue, surpassing earlier estimates, and he expressed frustration when questioned about how OpenAI will fund its massive $1 trillion spending commitments for computing infrastructure over the next decade. During a joint podcast interview with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and host Brad Gerstner, Altman dismissed concerns about OpenAI's financial sustainability, noting strong investor interest and asserting that critics who doubt OpenAI's prospects would eagerly buy shares if given the chance. Altman emphasized that OpenAI is making a forward bet on continued growth, with plans for ChatGPT expansion, becoming a leading AI cloud provider, developing a consumer device business, and automating scientific processes through AI. Nadella supported Altman's confidence, stating OpenAI has exceeded every business plan shared with Microsoft as an investor. While acknowledging potential risks such as securing sufficient computing resources, Altman maintained that revenue growth is steep and sustainable. He also remarked that although he seldom wishes for OpenAI to be publicly traded, he would welcome critics to short the stock and face losses if OpenAI succeeds.
