Champion Jockey Blake Shinn Hospitalized with Suspected Broken Leg after Melbourne Cup Fall

Champion jockey Blake Shinn suffered a heavy fall during Race 9 at Flemington shortly after finishing sixth in the Melbourne Cup aboard Vauban. Shinn was riding She’s Got Pizzazz when the horse became trapped between two others, causing him to be dislodged and possibly trampled before medics rushed to his aid. He was conscious but in discomfort and was taken to the hospital with a suspected broken left leg. Despite the incident, She’s Got Pizzazz continued to the finish line but was later reported lame off her foreleg. Fellow jockey Kerrin McEvoy, who won the race, expressed concern for Shinn’s welfare, emphasizing the dangers jockeys face. The Victorian Jockeys Association confirmed Shinn's hospital transport and injury status following the fall.
